Durable Bricks for Schools and Community Buildings
Overview
NGOs working on education and community infrastructure have to stretch every taka. Buildings must be safe, durable and inexpensive to maintain. Phoenix Ceramic & Auto Bricks Ltd. has supplied bricks to school and community centre projects led by organisations such as JAAGO Foundation and Pathway Bangladesh.
Our role is to provide reliable, standards-compliant bricks at volume so that partners can focus on social impact rather than chasing materials.
Challenge
- Remote or semi-urban sites with access difficulties, especially in the rainy season.
- Limited space for stockpiling large amounts of materials.
- Need for bricks that can withstand heavy daily use and weather exposure.
- Tight budgets and strict donor reporting on quality and sourcing.
Solution
Phoenix leveraged its long brick drying station and environment-friendly tunnel kiln to keep the supply chain stable and the quality consistent.
- All-season production: Because our drying and firing are fully controlled inside, production continues at planned capacity even when it is raining for days outside.
- Robust brick specification: We prioritise high compressive strength and low water absorption so that walls stay strong and less prone to damp and salt marks.
- Flexible delivery lots: Smaller, more frequent deliveries are scheduled for NGO projects where storage is limited and access is constrained.
- Documented quality: Test reports can be shared with project teams and donors to show compliance with BSTI and relevant government standards.
Outcome
Partner organisations received bricks that met their structural and durability needs without cost surprises. The ability to keep producing and drying bricks inside our long tunnel system meant monsoon rains did not slow down the build schedule, allowing schools and community buildings to open on time.
